Big Sur Coast and the Rocky Creek Bridge
Rocky Creek Bridge
Driving down iconic Highway 1 (Cabrillo Highway) along the California coast at sunset, I pulled over at a lookout where people stopped to view this awesome concrete arch bridge that was built back in the 1930s by the CCC. The sky was cloudy, but there was a break near the horizon, which allowed the sun to peek through just before it set into the ocean, and I got this really nice shot of warm light washing the cliffs of Big Sur
While often overshadowed by its neighbor, the Bixby Creek bridge another mile down the road, Rocky Creek offers a more intimate perspective of the rugged California cliffs and crashing waves. This shot captures the warm golden hour light hitting the parabolic arch, highlighting the architectural elegance that has defined the California Central Coast for nearly a century. I’d put it in the “must-see” category for any scenic road trip through California.
